School-Age Care: Learning by Design

This course provides information about the unique needs of school-age children and the type of environment that engages the whole child and best fosters learning. Participants will examine how to encourage exploration, uncover interests, and support peer relationships. Strategies that extend learning from the school day as well as encourage children to unwind, relax, be themselves, and socialize will be explored. Specific activities that support literacy and math learning, and physical development are presented. This is a 5-hour course worth 0.5 CEUs. This course can be utilized to meet the training requirements to earn or renew your Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Course content is aligned with the CDA Subject Area 3: Supporting children's social and emotional development.
